My Diwali started with a beautiful tradition. Early in the morning, my dad and I cleaned all the God’s photo frames and mini-idols in our home. It’s a tradition we follow with great devotion, reminding us to start the day with purity and positivity. As we wiped the frames and idols, my dad explained the significance of this ritual, making me feel closer to our culture and beliefs. The sunlight streaming through the windows made everything look extra shiny, and I felt like we were welcoming blessings into our home.

But, of course, Diwali isn’t just about cleaning and prayers; it’s also about bursting crackers! As the sun set, I joined my friends, and we had a blast with colorful fireworks. We laughed, jumped, and enjoyed the dazzling lights that filled the sky. We created sparkling patterns in the air, and it felt like magic.

After our fireworks adventure, we decided to show the elders the surprise dance performance we had for them. We danced to our favorite songs, and one of our friends recorded the whole thing. Later, we watched the video with our families, and we couldn’t stop laughing at our goofy dance moves. It was a perfect memory to cherish.

As the night approached, it was time to dress in our finest attire. I wore an orange lehenga choli, and my dad looked dashing in his blue kurta. We even accessorized with my mother’s necklace, which made me feel connected to her and our family traditions.

Just when the evening was getting all magical, my uncle surprised us with karaoke, turning the evening into an even more magical and musical experience. He sang a few songs that had us all tapping our feet, and he even showed off his dance moves. It was a fantastic performance, bringing so much joy to the celebration.

Later, my dad called me to take some selfies. During our selfie session, we had a heart-to-heart moment. He explained the importance of making time for family, having fun together, and cherishing these precious moments. I realized that Diwali is not just about rituals and celebrations; it’s about strengthening our bonds with loved ones.

To end the evening on a magical note, our entire family decided to put lanterns in the pool, each carrying a message. My lantern had a message that read “Free weekend,” which would entail better planning, reduced stress, staying focused, and making others’ lives easier. It was a beautiful sight as the lanterns floated on the water, and it felt like our hopes and wishes were lighting up the night.

I couldn’t help but feel grateful for this beautiful day filled with traditions, laughter, and love. Diwali had not only brought us closer to our culture but also closer to each other.
